Contactless cards are the next generation of bank cards. Instead of swiping or inserting a standard bank card, you can make transactions with the quick tap of a contactless bank card. Contactless cards have this symbol on the front or back. If you see this symbol on your card, you can tap it at OMNY readers at subway stations and on buses to make fare payments and enter the system.

Many banks and financial institutions have started switching to contactless cards to make payments faster and more secure for their customers. If you do not have a contactless card today, you can request one from your bank or financial institution. You can also link a non-contactless card to a digital wallet and use it with your smart device. Keep scrolling to learn more about digital wallets.

Digital wallets are mobile applications that allow you to make payments with smart devices, such as your smart phone, smart watch, or wearable. Like contactless cards, smart devices also use contactless technology. Before you can make fare payments with your smart device at OMNY readers, you will need to add your bank card to your digital wallet.

\\n

If you have more than one card linked to your digital wallet, make sure to choose which card you want to use before you tap it at an OMNY reader. Otherwise, the OMNY reader will use the default card linked to your digital wallet.

\\n

You may need to unlock your smart device to use your digital wallet. Refer to the user guides and settings for your smart device and digital wallet to learn more.

\\n

When you add your bank card to your digital wallet, it will create a device account number. The device account number is different for each smart device that you use. The last four digits of each device account number will appear in your OMNY account when you tap your smart device at OMNY readers.

OMNY readers

OMNY readers installed at station turnstiles, AutoGates, and onboard buses allow customers to tap their own contactless cards or smart devices, or OMNY cards, to make fare payments. OMNY readers can also be used to exit the subway through the AutoGates. Customers are not charged a fare to exit through the AutoGate.

How it works

Tap your device or contactless card for full-fare and Reduced-Fare OMNY trips on New York City Transit subways and local buses.
You must use the same contactless credit or debit card, smart device, or OMNY card for each trip.
Customers will automatically receive free, unlimited rides for the rest of the week once they have paid $34 in fares (or $17 for registered Reduced-Fare customers).
The seven-day period begins whenever you make your first tap of the week.

Once you’ve paid $34 for fares in a 7-day period, you can ride free for the rest of the week. Here’s an example:

A rider uses the subway to get to and from work, and takes it on weekends to go into Manhattan to meet friends. They also use the local buses in their neighborhood to run errands.
They use their smartphone to pay the fare, so each ride is $2.90.
After they have paid $34 in fares — the rest of the rides for the week will be free!

What is OMNY?

OMNY is the contactless fare payment system for public transportation in the New York region. Simply use your contactless credit or debit card, smart phone, wearable device, or an OMNY card to tap and go.

How to use OMNY

OMNY for Reduced-Fare

\\r\\n

Customers in the MTA’s Reduced-Fare MetroCard program can now make the switch to OMNY and get the same half fare benefit with the contactless credit/debit card or smart device of their choice. Use the digital assistant in the bottom-right of your screen and follow the prompts to switch from Reduced-Fare MetroCard to OMNY.

\\r\\n

Before starting, you must create an OMNY account. Have your Reduced-Fare MetroCard and your credit or debit card handy. Note that you can only link and use one form of payment for Reduced-Fare with OMNY, either the contactless card itself or a smart device (with your linked card enabled in the digital wallet). The digital assistant will help you make this choice.

As the entity that maintains the OMNY Website, Cubic employs a number of organizational, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect the Personal Information we collect, and Cubic periodically reviews its processes and systems to verify compliance with industry best practices to ensure the highest level of security. By way of example and not limitation, payment card information is stored within OMNY Products in a non-identifiable way so that it has no extrinsic or exploitable meaning or value. However, security risk is inherent in all internet and information technologies, and we cannot guarantee the security of your Personal Information.

As an additional security measure, should you register for an OMNY Account, we require the use of a valid email address and password to help protect your Personal Information. By using the OMNY Website, you acknowledge and agree that there is a risk that unauthorized third parties may engage in illegal activity, such as hacking or intercepting transmissions of Personal Information. OMNY ACCOUNT REGISTRATION AND CONTROLS

Registering for an OMNY Account is optional. If you opt to register for an OMNY Account, you will need to provide Account Information to us, as described in Section 1 (Personal Information We Collect) above. Modifying or Updating Personal Information

A customer who has registered for an OMNY Account can modify Personal Information at any time, or add or delete any Account Information both online at https://www.omny.info by logging into their OMNY Account, or by contacting OMNY Customer Service.

You may choose not to send us an email, register online for an OMNY Account, or otherwise communicate with us via the OMNY Website. PERSONAL INFORMATION OF CHILDREN; COMPLIANCE WITH COPPA.

The MTA does not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13 years through the OMNY Products, in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and the Federal Trade Commission’s rule interpreting COPPA (16 CFR § 312). The OMNY Products are not directed at children, and as such, Personal Information submitted in an email or through an online transaction will be treated as though it was submitted by an adult, and may, unless exempted by federal or state law, be subject to public access. OMNY is available throughout New York City

\\n

OMNY is available at all subway stations and on all buses, allowing you to tap and go throughout New York City. You can use OMNY with your own contactless card or smart device. OMNY currently supports a full-fare, pay-per-ride option for now, including free transfers.

New York City Subway

\\n

You can use OMNY at all subway stations in New York City, and at Staten Island Railway locations where fares are collected.

New York City Bus

\\n

OMNY is currently available on all MTA-operated local, limited, and express buses in New York City, including Select Bus Service routes. For now, OMNY readers located at rear doors will only be operational for Select Bus Service routes with all-door boarding.

Access-A-Ride

\\n

OMNY will be offered for paratransit services during the next phases of the rollout. Access-A-Ride customers will be able to use OMNY as a payment method for paratransit trips. Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad

\\n

OMNY will expand to commuter rail during the next phases of the rollout. Customers traveling on Long Island Rail Road or Metro-North Railroad will have access to a new mobile ticketing experience in the OMNY mobile app which will eventually replace eTix. In addition, new physical tickets will be sold at vending machines and ticket offices throughout the region. Additional information will be provided in the coming months.
